Corporate History

Our start began in September of 1984 in a little office on State Street in Guilford; as a way to meet his neighbors and the surrounding communities of where he decided to raise his family, Ed Walker formed East River Oil. As a one man operation, Ed did just about everything- from buying and selling the oil to delivering it personally; he often dropped off his children at school using his oil delivery truck.

The following year current President and CEO Don Herzog joined East River Oil as Ed’s partner. East River Oil was later renamed as East River Energy to publicize their extensive product variety as not just oil but also diesel fuel, gasoline, natural gas, and propane. Don was confident that his prior experience of selling to commercial, government and municipalities would certainly take the business to the next level. Herzog sold all throughout the state opening new accounts, the largest being the state of Connecticut.

East River Energy added employees, drivers and trucks to handle their rapid success. After outgrowing three different offices, East River Energy now resides at 401 Soundview Rd, Guilford on 4.5 acres of land and occupies a 17,000 foot warehouse space accompanied by a 9,400-square-foot brick office building.

Together, Walker and Herzog soon established two other brands; Soundview Transportation, to transport fuels for themselves and for other companies and F&N Elpat pool water, now the area’s largest pool water dealer. East River Energy is now licensed to operate in 12 different states due to the network of fuel supply and transportation options the company has developed. Today, the company owns and operates a proprietary fleet of over 30 vehicles and employs a team of over 60 people.

East River Energy has become a diversified and reliable energy supplier to homes and businesses of the Northeast. The growth of our company and facilities is a true testament of the valued customers we’ve served and the strong relationships we’ve made. We thank you for being our energy partner.
